Back

Some general tips

Australia may be facing a severe drought but you can still have a healthy garden without breaking water restrictions.

Just follow some simple rules.

  • Choose waterwise plants.
  • Use wetting agents to ensure that your soil holds water more efficiently.
  • Mulch all the gardens and pots. Mulch is a must.
  • Take advantage of products that promote less frequent watering.
What do you want to do? Ways to achieve your goal How Scotts® can help

Plan your garden with plants that thrive in drier conditions.

Choose Australian natives such as grevilleas, callistemons and hakeas.

Native plants cope better with drought conditions and need less water than annuals and many 'soft' plants.

Here's some useful information

Ensure garden beds and pots retain moisture.

  • Use high quality potting mix for potted plants.
  • Use wetting agents.
  • Apply mulch.
  • Pot your plants in Osmocote® Premium Potting Mix, which has enough fertiliser to last 4 months and needs to be watered much less often than ordinary mixes.
  • Mix Hydraflo2® Wetting Agent into your soil. Hydraflo2® is a long-lasting wetting agent with soil wetting properties that can last up to a year.

Keep your plants healthy and well nourished.

Use a continuous release plant food that lasts for months .

For Australian Native plants, use Osmocote® PLUS Native Gardens, which can be used on all native plants.
