Plant a fruit tree.

  1. Dig a dish-shaped planting hole the same depth as the root ball but much wider.
  2. Put water in the hole and check to see it drains away after a short while.
  3. Place the plant in the hole.
  4. Replace one-third of the soil.
  5. Mix organic material - about 5% - and controlled release fertiliser with the remainder of the soil and return to hole but do not cover the surface of the root ball.
  6. Water well.
  7. Mulch.
