Environmentally friendly Osmocote® prills

Reducing our footprint

Back

Scotts Australia is working hard to help gardeners reduce their environmental impact by providing products that gardeners can use to tackle environmental issues that matter.

  • Reducing leaching into waterways
  • Applying products less often
  • Promoting healthy soil microbes

Diagram shows how fertiliser is released from Osmocote® prills - the difference between 'slow release' and Osmocote's controlled release process.

How do the Scotts products you use measure up?

Osmocote® is much less wasteful than many other fertilisers. It is applied less often - only twice a year - and there is almost no leaching into streams, waterways or ground water.

By contrast, many organic fertilisers, such as manures, leach a lot!

And there are many other reasons why Osmocote is good for the environment.

Scotts® Lawn Builder™ is a slow release fertiliser. Each application lasts a season long and there is almost no leaching.

Lawn Builder promotes populations of healthy soil microbes.

 Defender

Defender™ products containing old style dangerous chemicals such as carbaryl, rogor or maldison have all been replaced with new, low-toxicity products that are kinder to the environment. For example, Defender MaxGuard, Defender HomeDefense. And where this is not possible, packaging has been upgraded to be child, pet and water proof, for example the new Defender Snail & Slug pellets plastic pouch.

MiracleGro

Scotts have developed and introduced new products based on natural ingredients. For example, the new Miracle-Gro® SeaFeed 3in1 plant food & health tonic, made from seaweed, fish and organic compounds.

Trials of Seafeed have proved that it gets better results than other leading brands.

Product leaching, frequency of product application and soil microbes each have an impact in the broader environment story. Read how!
