How to turn Autumn leaves into compost and mulch

Mulching provides plant food and optimises watering

Herbs flourish - mulching provides plant food and optimises watering.

Autumn leaves make a great addition to the compost bin or heap.

  • Run over the leaves with the mower to help them break down into compost faster.
  • Combine the leaves with lawn clippings, chopped up prunings and kitchen scraps.
  • Turn the heap or fluff the contents of the bin regularly to incorporate air into the mix.

A tip for making mulch even more effective

Sprinkle Osmocote® Controlled Release Plant Food over the soil before spreading mulch.

Why?

All mulches draw down nitrogen from the soil as microorganisms decompose it. The Osmocote will ensure there is plenty of food for both your plants and those useful micro critters.

Osmocote® TOTAL All Purpose is suitable for all types of gardens and there are also many special-purpose Osmocote® Plus products.
