Environmentally responsible gardening
Osmocote®'s unique controlled release technology means there is no surplus fertiliser run-off or leaching to pollute waterways. Check out Scotts® environment stories.
What to do...
For established plants
Apply Osmocote® at the dripline (below the outer edge of the foliage) and outwards. Water well and cover with mulch.
For established pots
Sprinkle evenly over the surface of the potting mix. Water well and top with a thin layer of mulch.
For self-watering pots
Make holes in the potting mix with a pencil or long skewer and fill with columns of Osmocote®. Water initially from the top and the fertiliser will subsequently be diffused through the mix as the water is absorbed from the well of water below.
For advanced trees
Use a narrow garden stake to make small deep holes spaced around the circumference of the tree. Fill the holes with columns of Osmocote® and water the area well.
For potting up
Mix Osmocote® with potting mix at the rate of 5g per 1 litre of potting mix.
Check first to see that the mix does not already contain fertiliser.
Osmocote® Premium Potting Mix, for example, already contains enough fertiliser to last 4 months.
For broadcasting
Broadcast Osmocote at the rate of 5-8 kg per sq kilometre or 50-80g per sq m. The rate depends on the existing nutrient level of the soil.
For waterplants
Incorporate the Osmocote into the potting medium and top with gravel or pebbles.
